TEL Roundup: Sleepy Eye edges Searles in TEL action on Sunday

SLEEPY EYE — The Sleepy Eye Indians got by the Searles Grizzlies 10-8 on Sunday in Tomahawk East League amateur baseball action.

Jake Mielke got the win for the Indians, pitching five innings and giving up one earned run on eight hits and a pair of walks with two strikeouts. Dylan Klein got the four-inning save.

For the Indians, Alan Woitas was 3 for 4 with three runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI, while Andrew Woitas was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a stolen base. Matt Mielke was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Nick DeWanz took the loss for Searles in five innings, giving up nine hits for four earned runs with four strikeouts. Searles was led by Craig Fischer, who went 4 for 6 with an RBI, while Kasey Kuck added three hits and Dave Hatle added two hits and two RBIs.

Hanska 9, Essig 1

ESSIG — The Hanska Lakers clobbered the Essig Bluejays 9-1 on Sunday in Tomahawk East League amateur baseball action.

Dayton Larson got the win for Hanska in seven innings of work, allowing seven hits and a pair of walks for one earned run. He struck out five.

Hanska was led by Brady Mosenden, who was 2 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Derek Wilfahrt was 2 for 2 with two RBIs. Matt Suess also homered and added two RBIs for the Lakers.

Alex Guggisberg took the loss for Essig, allowing one earned run and six hits in four innings while striking out five. The Bluejays were led by Erich Prokosch, who homered and added a single.

Stark 12, Courtland 4

STARK — The Stark Longhorns downed the Courtland Cubs 12-4 on Sunday in Tomahawk East League amateur baseball action.

Adam Sellner led Stark with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, driving in three runs with a pair of doubles and scoring two runs. Sean Mathiowetz also was 3 for 5 for Stark with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Joey Wahl added two hits and an RBI.

Jon Kopacek took the win for the Longhorns, pitching seven innings and surrendering nine hits for three earned runs with eight strikeouts.

For Courtland, Chase Meyer pitched 6 1/3 innings and took the loss, giving up four earned runs with four strikeouts. The Cubs were led at the plate by Matt Stein, who was 4 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored. Hunter Johnson also added three hits and an RBI.

Gibbon 5, Springfield 3

GIBBON — The Gibbon Reds topped the Springfield Tigers 5-3 on Sunday in Tomahawk East League amateur baseball action.

Gibbon was led by Kyle Maurer, who was 2 for 3 with two home runs, while Brendan Kienlen was 2 for 4 wth a homer. Brandon Kerling also added two hits and a run scored for the Reds.

Maurer took the win in relief also, pitching two innings and giving up one earned run with a pair of strikeouts.

For Springfield, Decker Scheffler went 4 for 5 with three RBIs and a homer, while Ryan Sturm was 2 for 4. Brandon Wilhelmi took the loss for the Tigers, pitching eight innings and allowing eight hits and three earned runs with seven strikeouts.
