Cathedral, MVL advances in 2A girls’ golf meet

New Ulm Cathedral and Minnesota Valley Lutheran girls’ advance to Section 2A finals

NORTH MANKATO — The New Ulm Cathedral and Minnesota Valley Lutheran girls’ teams finished second and third, respectively, at North Links on Tuesday, earning both teams a trip to the Section 2A finals on Monday at North Links.

Cathedral was led by Kayla Goblirsch (85), Alayna Spaude (114), Emma Henle (120) and Grace Gleisner (122).

MVL was led by Nadine Clobes (99), Avery Weisensel (106), Abbie Riederer (110), Lili Mohror (1320 and Olivia Merseth (144).

Others advancing from the area were Springfield’s Mackenzie Lothert (93), Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop’s Annie Pomplun (98), Cedar Mountain’s Shaylee Schiller (99), Sleepy Eye United’s Ashtyn Tauer (103), Cedar Mountain’s Morgan Engholm (103) and Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey’s Olivia Christians (107).

Springfield 11, BLHS 1

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 11-1 on Tuesday in a Section 2A playoff baseball game.

The winning pitcher was Springfield’s Henry Scheitel, who had four strikeouts and allowed six hits and one run.

Elijah Stifter took the loss for BLHS, with one strikeout and giving up four hits, five runs and three walks.

Springfield was led in hitting by Decker Scheffler, who went 2 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Isaac Fink went 3 for 4 with one run scored and three RBIs and Mitchell Leonard, who went 2 for 4 with one run scored and one RBI.

BLHS was led by Ben Dornseif, who went 2 for 2 with one RBI and Nathan Schultz, who went 1 for 3 with one run scored.

Loyola 3, Sleepy Eye 2

MANKATO — Mankato Loyola defeated Sleepy Eye 3-2 in Section 2A playoff baseball action.

Jacob Berg took the loss. He went 9 2/3 innings and allowed five hits and three runs. He struck out nine.

Berg was also 0 for 1 with an RBI and Kegan Heiderscheidt was 0 for 4 with an RBI.

Sleepy Eye is at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Thursday in an elimination bracket game.
