Springfield 9, St. Clair 0

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield’s Isaac Fink threw a no-hitter as Springfield defeated St. Clair 9-0 on Thursday in a Section 2A playoff game.

Fink had nine strikeouts and allowed two walks.

St. Clair’s Gabe Holland took the loss and had four strikeouts and gave up nine hits, nine runs, one home run and seven walks.

Springfield was led in hitting by Decker Scheffler, who went 2 for 4 with three runs scored and three RBIs, Hunter Mathiowetz, who went 1 for 2 with one run scored and Aaron Salonek, who went 1 for 3 with one run scored.

Cleveland 9, St. Mary’s 0

CLEVELAND — Cleveland defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 9-0 on Thursday in a Section 2A playoff baseball game.

The winning pitcher was Cleveland’s Bryce Novak, who had seven strikeouts and gave up two walks and three hits.

Nick Labat took the loss. He had seven strikeouts and gave up five walks, three hits and six runs.

John Luu Mathiowetz, Carson Domeier and Spencer Hoffmann each had a hit for St. Mary’s.

TRUMAN — Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman defeated Madelia 3-1 in Section 2A playoff baseball action on Thursday.

Logan Anderson pitched 6 1/3 innings of no-hit baseball, striking out 17. But he had to leave the game do to the pitch-count rule and the Jaguars rallied to win the game in the bottom of the seventh.

Anderson had the only hit for Madelia, which ends the season at 8-10.

Sleepy Eye 2

SLEEPY EYE — Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey defeated Sleepy Eye 8-2 on Thursday in a Section 2A softball playoff game.

Molly Carnell got the win for Mt. Lake Area/Comfrey with five strikeouts and allowing 10 hits and two runs.

The losing pitcher was Sleepy Eye’s Kathryn Schroepfer, who had three strikeouts and gave up 13 hits and eight runs.

Sleepy Eye was led in hitting by Emma Fischer, who went 1 for 4 with one run scored, McKenna Strong, who went 3 for 4 with one RBI and Jaclyn Nessett, who went 1 for 3 with one run scored.

Nicollet 12, Springfield 2

NICOLLET — Nicollet defeated Springfield 12-2 on Thursday in a Section 2A playoff softball game.

The winning pitcher was Nicollet’s Marah Hulke, who had four strikeouts and allowed three hits, two runs and two walks.

Springfield’s Brittany Rogotzke took the loss with one strikeout and giving up six hits, 11 runs and four walks.

Nicollet was led in hitting by Hayley Selby, who went 3 for 3 with two runs scored and three RBIs, Marah Hulke, who went 1 for 3 with one run scored and three RBIs and Brook Gohr, who went 1 for 3 with two runs scored.

Springfield’s Grace Pingeon and Kendall Kelly each went 1 for 2 with one run scored.

Boys’ golf

BUFFALO LAKE — New Ulm competed in the Section 3AA boys’ golf tournament on Thursday.

The Eagles did not advance as a team to Day 2 action because they finished sixth with a score of 338.

Glavine Schugel is in first place overall with a 72 and Aiden Guggisberg is in third with a 77. Also for New Ulm, Josh Gulden shot a 90 and Kyle Esser and Keagan Schiro each shot a 99.
