Indians knock out Madelia in 2A

SLEEPY EYE — Despite some baserunning errors, Sleepy Eye ended Madelia’s season with an 11-1 victory in Section 2A softball action at Burnside Park.

Sleepy Eye’s Kathryn Schroepfer held the Blackhawks hitless through four innings. She finished with nine strikeouts, allowed two hits and she walked one.

The Indians scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Brynja Mielke hit a one-out triple that scored Morgan Klein and McKenna Strong, but Mielke was later tagged out at third base on a grounder after she was caught wandering off the base too far. Earlier in the inning, the Indians had a chance to score but Emma Fischer was thrown out at home trying to score from third on a grounder to the pitcher.

The Indians scored five more runs in the second inning, including an RBI single by Strong and a two-run double by Mielke. Martina Nienhaus later made it 7-0 with an RBI single.

The Indians scored two more runs in the third inning before the Blackhawks ended the no-hit bit with an infield single by Addie Ahern. She later scored on another infield single by Malia Schwanke.

For Sleepy Eye, went 2 for 2 with a double, a triple and four RBIs. Morgan Klein went 3 for 5 with three runs scored and Martina Nienhaus went 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Corban Tatro took the loss, giving up 11 runs, 14 hits, seven walks and she struck out a batter for Madelia which ends its season at 1-18.

Sleepy Eye is at Mountain Lake Area on Thursday.
