Cathedral girls, Springfield boys lead after Day 1 of Tomahawk Conference golf tournament

BUFFALO LAKE – Day 1 of the Tomahawk Conference golf tournament­ concluded on Wednesday at Oakdale Golf Club, with the New Ulm Cathedral girls’ golf team (440) and the Springfield boys’ golf team (329) in first.

For the girls’ teams, Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop finished behind Cathedral in second (445), while Minnesota Valley Lutheran was third (456) and Cedar Mountain finished fourth (477).

For the boys’ teams, SEU followed Springfield in second (333), while Cathedral was third (353) and Cedar Mountain was fourth (357).

Kayla Goblirsch of Cathedral was the girls’ medalist for Day 1, shooting an 87, good for 20 points. Springfield’s Mackenzie Lothert followed up Goblirsch in second by shooting a 90.

Springfield’s Mavrick Winkelmann shot a 74, good for 20 points, to be the boys’ medalist on Day 1, while teammate Mason Kretsch shot a 77 for second.

Right behind Kretsch in third was Sleepy Eye United’s Andrew Neid, who shot a 78.

Day 2 will take place Monday at New Ulm Country Club.
