Eagles boys top Saints
NEW ULM — New Ulm defeated St. Peter 4-3 on Thursday in a Big South boys’ tennis match. It was a big win for the Eagles’ program.
“I’m totally happy with the win,” New Ulm head coach Pete Engeldinger said. “We have not beaten St. Peter in a long, long time.”
The Saints did not have their best players on the court at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
Colton Collum won his match at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0.
“I hit the ball where I wanted, played consistently, so it was a good match,” Collum said. “St. Peter always has a good program and they play well.”
Isaac Blumhoefer won at No. 2 singles 7-6, 7-5, (8-6), Max Gieseke won at No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-4 and Cody Gilman lost at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-1.
Aaron Eikanger and Jack Brownfield lost at No. 1 doubles 6-0, 6-1, Ethan O’Connor and Dan Rosenhamer won at No. 2 doubles 6-2, 7-6, (7-5).
Josh Rakoczy and Joey Gag lost at No. 3 doubles 6-4, 6-7, (5-7), 10-8.
New Ulm (2-2) will play at St. James Area on Monday.
