UW-Superior takes 2 from Knights in UMAC softball

SUPERIOR, Wis. — The Martin Luther College softball team struggled in a pair of defeats at UW-Superior on Monday by the scores of 10-1 (five innings) and 12-1 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action.

UWS 10, MLC 0 (5 innings)

Two big innings at the plate led the Yellowjackets to a 10-0 win in game one.

The two teams remained tied 0-0 after three innings, but UWS erupted for four runs in the fourth inning and six more in the fifth on the way to the win.

MLC starting pitcher Rebecca Pruss (5-3) allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits in four innings in defeat. Audrey Timm and Jodi Halvorson recorded the only two MLC hits in the game.

UWS 12, MLC 1

The Yellowjackets once again held the MLC offense in check on the way to a 12-1 win in game two.

UWS scored once in the second and third innings, and then added four runs in the fourth to take a commanding 6-0 lead.

MLC responded with its only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when Kelsey Birschbach singled home Samantha Schoch, but the Yellowjackets put the game away with six runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Morgan Palubicki (1-10) allowed six runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings for the Knights. Schoch and Birschbach each finished with two hits to lead MLC.

The Knights fell to 7-13 on the season and 3-5 in UMAC play following the two losses. UWS improved to 11-15 overall and 8-0 in league play with the sweep.

MLC will return to action on Tuesday when it travels to Bethany Lutheran College for a doubleheader scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
