MLC bats silenced in trio of losses to Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Martin Luther College baseball team dropped all three games of its triple header at University of Dubuque on Saturday by the scores of 5-0, 16-0 and 8-0.

Dubuque 5, MLC 0

Dubuque spoiled a strong pitching performance by MLC starting pitcher Dillon Solomon (0-4) in a 5-0 game-one win.

Solomon tossed a complete game for the Knights, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits, but the Spartans took advantage of seven free passes to help them push five runs across the plate. Dubuque opened the game with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but Solomon held them without another run until the sixth inning, when the Spartans put the game away with three insurance tallies.

Tyler Roecker, Matt Baehman and Jonas Lindemann accounted for MLC’s three hits.

Dubuque 16, MLC 0

The Knights struggled to throw strikes in the second game as Dubuque took the middle game 16-0.

Four MLC pitchers combined to allow 14 free passes, helping the Spartans score 16 runs in spite of recording only eight hits. Michael Fromm (1-2) started the game for MLC and allowed five runs (two earned) on four hits in 2.0 innings in defeat.

The Spartans once again held the MLC offense in check as Caleb Christopher and Will Rauh accounted for the only two MLC hits.

Dubuque 8, MLC 0

The Spartans finished off the sweep with an 8-0 win in game three.

For the third straight game, the MLC offense struggled and finished with only a pair of hits (Baehman and Andrew Deisinger each finished with one apiece).

Deisinger (0-3) also started the game on the mound for MLC and allowed six runs on nine hits in three innings. Andrew Mantz allowed two runs on four hits in three innings of relief.

MLC fell to 3-18 on the season following the three defeats.
