Three homers lead Springfield by Courtland; Springfield tops New Ulm
The Springfield Tigers picked up a pair of Tomahawk East League wins on Sunday, defeating Courtland 15-5 in seven innings and New Ulm 6-2.
Branden Flock led the Tigers over the Cubs with a 3-for-5 day at the plate and four RBIs. Alex Fink also added three hits, a home run and an RBI, while Decker Scheffler had two hits, two RBIs and a home run.
Ryan Sturm added to the home-run party for Springfield with a 2-for-4 day, three RBIs and a homer. Mason Rummel was 3 for 4 for Springfield.
Carter Erickson got the win in relief of Flock, pitching 3 1/3 innings and striking out one.
Courtland was led by Hunter Johnson, who was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Chase Meyer, who was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Keith Besemer added two hits.
Johnson took the loss for Courtland, pitching 4 2/3 innings and allowing seven earned runs on three walks and nine hits.
In the second win for the Tigers, Scheffler went 2 for 4, while Sturm went 2 for 3. Erickson added a hit and two RBIs. Brandon Wilhelmi got the complete-game win, giving up 11 hits and two walks for two earned runs while striking out eight.
New Ulm was led by Wade French, who went 3 for 5. Nick Fischer was 2 for 4.
Adam Slander took the loss, going six innings and allowing three earned runs on 11 hits and two walks. He struck out five.
