MLC splits doubleheader with Crown College

NEW ULM — The Martin Luther College baseball team lost its halted game from May 1 against Crown College 5-4, but won the non-conference game after that by the score of 12-6.

Crown 5, MLC 4

Crown came back from a three-run deficit to win the halted conference game from last week 5-4.

The Knights led 4-1 with one out and one runner on, but the Storm put three hits and took advantage of a walk and several errors to score four runs off Matt Baehman (1-5), who started the game back on May 1 but was unable to shut the door on Monday at the restart after pitching a complete game on Sunday at North Central.

MLC 12, Crown 6

MLC took out its frustrations from the first game loss with a blowout win by the score of 12-6 in game two.

The Knights fell behind 1-0 early, but quickly took the lead with a three-run bottom half of the first inning, and then put the game away with an eight-run third inning that was capped by Caleb Christopher’s second home run of the season.

Noah Panzer (1-0) overcame the early run to earn the win in his first start of the season. Panzer allowed only one run on three hits in six innings while striking out a career-high nine batters before the Storm rallied for five runs in the final frame to make the final deficit six runs.

Christopher led MLC with three hits and three runs batted in. Tyler Roecker also drove in three with a pair of hits, while Karl Kuschel added two hits.

MLC finished the season 4-23 overall and 1-15 in UMAC play following the split. Crown moved to 6-23 with a 3-13 UMAC record after the split.
