NEW ULM — The New Ulm Eagles girls’ hockey team continued their domination of Big South Conference teams Tuesday night.

The Eagles scored six goals in the first period and then added five more in the second period as they rolled Fairmont 11-0 at the New Ulm Civic Center.

Ashtyn Wiltscheck scored four goals and added an assist with Ali Beltz recording a hat trick and also adding an assist. Beltz now has 52 goals to lead the state.

Eli Cooper, Dani Weiss, Ally Steffensmeier and Molly Scheid all added goals. Weiss also had two assists.

New Ulm goalie Cassie Reed had an easy night with four saves as New Ulm improved to 11-0 in the conference and 17-4-1 overall.

In their 11 conference games, they have outscored opponent 92-11.

Fairmont goalie Emily O’Connor recorded 46 saves as the Cards fell to 0-13 in the conference and 2-20 overall.

“I thought that overall our girls played better than they have against some of our conference opponents,” Eagles coach Kristin Faber said. “We came out with some energy and came out doing mostly the right things. We got six (goals) in the first and then we had opportunities for other girls to get some extended playing time.”

Goals by Cooper, Beltz, Wiltscheck and Weiss in less than five minutes into the game had the Eagles ahead 4-0 before Wiltscheck and Steffensmeier recorded goals eight seconds apart for a quick 6-0 lead after the first 17 minutes with 25 shots on goal.

“New Ulm is a fast-paced team,” Fairmont coach Ashley Olson said. “With our low numbers and such a young team (five eighth graders and three freshmen) it was difficult for us to keep up.”

Goals from Scheid and Wiltscheck’s hat trick made it 8-0 at the 8:11 mark of the second period.

Back-to-back goals from Beltz less than four minutes apart in the second period had New Ulm ahead 10-0 before Wiltscheck’s fourth goal of the game with less than two minutes remaining in the second period upped the lead to 11-0.

In the third period, Fairmont did not have a shot on goal.

“They did mot have much happening offensively,” Faber said. “But we can do better in our defensive zone. There is always something we can improve on.”
