MLC falls to Macalester

ST. PAUL — The Martin Luther College women’s basketball team lost its final nonconference game of the season by the score of 64-50 at Macalester on Monday.

The Knights were unable to overcome a slow start as the Scots built a 37-19 lead after holding MLC to only six points in the second quarter.

MLC battled back in the second half, outscoring Macalester 19-12 and then cutting the deficit to 10 points early in the fourth quarter before the Scots were able to put the game away with one final run.

The Knights were held to 25.4 percent shooting overall and made only two of 16 attempts from beyond the 3-point arc. MLC was able to gain ground at the charity stripe, outscoring the Scots 18-11.

Jade St. Germaine led MLC with 15 points with the help of 13-16 shooting from the free throw line. Emily Witkowski finished in double figures for the second straight game with 11 points. Grace Schultz grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds to go with seven points for the Knights.

MLC fell to 4-12 on the season in defeat, while Macalester improved to 6-9 with the win.

The Knights will return to UMAC play on Wednesday, January 17, when they travel to Crown College for a game scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
