Wabasso leads all-district football honors

Wabasso, which took second place in state this year were honored with several postseason awards this week, including five Southwest District, East Subdistrict honors.

Joe Kemp was named the East’s Coach of the Year, while Cooper Taylor took home the MVP award in the east. Taylor also was named the East’s Offensive Back of the Year.

Ty Kemp received the East’s Defensive Back of the Year award, while Isaac Schmiesing was named the Defensive Lineman of the Year for the east.

New Ulm Cathedral’s BJ Mages also received a Southwest District, East Subdistrict honor as he took home the Offensive Lineman of the Year award.

There were several local athletes that received All-Subdistrict team honors in the Southwest District also.

For Wabasso, Nick Altermatt, Cooper Taylor, Colton Taylor, Schmiesing, Jacob Plaetz and Ty Kemp were named to the team, while Myles Zeug and Tony Franta were honorable mentions.

For Cathedral, Mages, Colton Braulick, Tyler Wilson, Nate Hauser and David Berg made the team, while Matt Guggisberg and Zack Helget were honorable mentions.

Sleepy Eye saw Carter Tauer, Landon Strong and Isaac Velasquez make the team, while Jacob Berg and Zach Haala received honorable mentions. Springfield’s Devin Johnson, James Ploeger and Decker Scheffler made the team, while Andrew Beckman and Mason Rummel were named honorable mentions.
