MLC women, men win nonconference matches

MINNEAPOLIS – The Martin Luther College women’s soccer team earned its first win of the season by the score of 2-1 at North Central University on Friday in a non-conference game.

The Knights outshotthe Rams 26-2 overall and held an 11-2 edge in shots on goal.

Alyssa Maertz gave MLC the lead heading into halftime with an unassisted goal in the 41st minute, but NCU struck back early in the second stanza with a goal to tie the score at 1-1.

The score remained tied until the 75th minute, when Jenna Maurer scored the game-winner off a pass from Hailey Johnson to give the Knights the win. The goal was Mauer’s second of the season.

MLC men win

MINNEAPOLIS – The MLC men’s soccer team scored twice in the final five minutes to top North Central University 2-1 Friday in a non-conference game.

The Knights fell behind 1-0, but Josh Koelpin tied the game for MLC at the 85:50 mark, scoring his first goal of the season off a rebound.

The Knights completed the comeback when Aaron Markgraf scored with only 22 seconds remaining to give MLC the 2-1 win.
