St. Mary’s defeats BLHS in Tomahawk softball

St. Mary’s softball 8, BLHS 1

SLEEPY EYE – St. Mary’s defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference softball game.

Laura Pelzel was the winning pitcher, going seven innings, giving up seven hits, one run, striking out six batters and hitting one.

Ali Beltz was 1-for-3 with a home run, one run scored and three RBIs. Natalie Schroepfer was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Cassie Smith went 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Emily Markgraf was the losing pitcher. She went six innings, gave up eight runs on 12 hits, walked two, struck out two and she gave up a home run.

Kelsie Dascher went 3-fo-3 for BLHS with a double and one run scored.

St. Mary’s (10-3, 9-3) will play at Sleepy Eye on Thursday in a double-header. BLHS will play at Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Thursday.

Wabasso softball16,

MVL 4, (6 innings)

WABASSO – Wabasso crushed Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference softball game.

Emily Benz got the win, pitching six innings, giving up four runs on six hits while striking out four. She also went 1-for-3 with a grand slam to end the game. She had a total of five RBIs.

Alison Benz went 2-for-3 with a double, and Becky Franta was 2-for-3.

Wabasso will host New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday in a doubleheader. MVL will host Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Thursday in a doubleheader.

Springfield 3, Cathedral 2 (10 innings)

SPRINGFIELD -Springfield edged New Ulm Cathedral on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game.

Carter Erickson was the winning pitcher. He pitched nine innings, giving up two runs on six hits, striking out eight and walking three batters.

Erickson, Braden Flock and Jaden Mickelson each had one run for Springfield. Jevan Richert and Jake Vanderwerf each had an RBI. Flock also had four hits and Vanderwerf had three hits in the game.

Collin Helget took the loss, going nine innings, giving up two runs on nine hits, striking out three and walking two.

Gabe Knowles had three hits and one run for the Greyhounds. Brandon Beranek had one run for Cathedral and EJ Berdan had an RBI.

GFW baseball 6, C/CM 0

FAIRFAX – Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop defeated Comfrey/Cedar Mountain on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game.

Nolan Hurias was the winning pitcher as he pitched a complete game, giving up on runs, four hits, striking out nine batters.

Mitch Treml was the losing pitcher. He went six innings, gave up six runs on six hits, struck out two and he walked one.

Cody Hurias of GFW went 4-for-4 with one run RBI and two runs scored.

GFW (8-3, 8-4) will play at Springfield on Thursday in a doubleheader. C/CM will play on Friday at Nicollet.

New Ulm baseball 14, SJA 3

ST. JAMES – New Ulm crushed St. James Area in a Big South Conference baseball game on Tuesday.

Conner Forbrook was the winning pitcher. He went five innings, gave up three runs on five hits, walked one and he struck out four.

JT Hoffmann scored four runs, had four hits and two RBIs. Wyatt Peterson scored two runs, he had two hits, one RBI and two walks.

Derek Meyer was the losing pitcher. He pitched two innings, gave up six runs on five hits, walked two and he struck out one.

Josh Stordalen had two runs, and two hits.

New Ulm will host Waseca on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Mueller Park. SJA will play at Windom on Thursday.

SPRINGFIELD – BOLD swept Springfield in golf on Tuesday in a nonconference meet.

Andrew Salonek and Kale Meendering each shot a 45 for the Tigers.

Jena Roiger carded a 51 and Callie Wersal had a 52.

Springfield will participate in the Tomahawk Conference golf meet on Monday with the boys meeting in Springfield and the girls in Sleepy Eye.

ST. JAMES – The Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart boys and the St. James Area girls prevailed in a nonconference triangular golf meet on Tuesday.

Ryan Heinrichs of St. Mary’s and ack Broderius of BLHS were co-medalists with a score of 41 each.

Andrew Neid of St. Mary’s and Zach Almich (BLHS) each carded a 44.

Sophie Lepp of SJA was the girl’s medalist when she shot a 47 Anna Miller of St. Mary’s had a 52 and Mariah Paulson of BLHS shot a 56.
