Protect the Children

To the editor: The Oct. 11, 2022, issue of the Independent carried an article by columnist George Will entitled; ‘Why the West must stop Putin’s drive to export Russia’s cruel pathologies’. This article listed at least 15 incidents of Russian cruelty ranging from pushing people through a hole in the ice to drown like rats, to decapitation and amputation of genitals, etc. Is our country much different? Over the last 30+ years, I have written many letters in various newspapers opposing abortion. Some of them had graphic descriptions of abortion techniques such as the ...

New Ulm Public Schools, preparing students

To the editor: As a parent of two New Ulm public school graduates and two students currently enrolled in the middle school and high school, I have a solid perspective on the incredible job New Ulm public schools is doing to prepare students for their future, academically and socially. Of our graduates, one is attending a four-year college, the other, a two-year trade school. Both children were offered opportunities to prepare for their future by taking Advanced Placement (AP) classes, college classes, hands-on classes at the CTE Center, a skilled trade internship, and numerous ...

Vote Yes for referendum

To the editor: I am writing to ask you to vote YES for the (District 88) referendum. I have had the chance to see and work with kids in New Ulm for over 30 years. I see the struggles they have and we need to help them. One way is to have a strong school system. Passing this referendum will help our children. Please vote YES. Scott Rysdahl MD New Ulm

Two choices on Election Day

To the editor: Choice #1 — If you want to change America to a Socialist Communist country, you will vote Democratic. Choice #2 - If you love America and want to keep America Great again, you will vote Republican. The democratic party will have open borders, illegals crossing the borders by hundreds and thousands a month, high gas prices, six or seven dollars a gallon, buying oil from countries who hate us. You will have high crime in states run by democrats, abortion on demand and a big drug problem coming into the United States killing thousands a year. Inflation on things you ...

Vote for Mack

To the editor: I would like to remind everyone in New Ulm to vote on Nov. 8. And if you are a Ward 4 resident, vote for Larry Mack for city council. The Mack history in New Ulm runs deep. Peter Mack was one of the original settlers of New Ulm. He came to New Ulm in 1854 and was one of the few who stayed. Larry is all about what is best for New Ulm. He cares deeply about the community and wants it to grow and flourish. I know he will continue to bring integrity, boundless energy, and selfless dedication to the job as city councilor. Larry has always been a doer. He is kind, ...

Many reasons Lange deserves your vote

To the Editor: There are many reasons we need to reelect Sheriff Dave Lange. I’m a lifelong resident of Nicollet County. As a member of the Nicollet County Sheriff’s Posse I’ve gotten to know Sheriff Lange on a more personal level. I see in his dealings with others that he always treats them with respect and dignity. He’s always looking for the best for our county. While he wears many hats we deal with him mostly in his civic duties. For 16 years he’s hosted the Polar Plunge that has raised $1.2 Million for the Special Olympics. Every year he’s the first one to jump in. ...
