To the editor:

I have heard a justification for ICE rounding up thousands of Latinos, Somalis, and other ethnic minorities. Proponents of ICE have labeled these dark-skinned people as the “worst of the worst,” and Americans should be happy with their disappearance, even if we suffer some collateral damage (i.e. Renee Good and Alex Pretti).

I suppose that we would find some violent criminals among these minorities. I doubt the criminal element is the 70 percent that Kristi Noem claims. During my 79 years I have met quite a few minorities. The overwhelming percentage of them are honest and hardworking. They strike me as people the United States needs. If we check around construction sites, we will discover a shortage of skilled laborers.

Perhaps the ICE invasion is a misguided and out-of-control political stunt rather than the peace-keeping mission that some claim.
