Shedding light on cruelty toward our neighbors

To the editor:

I grew up in New Ulm a long time ago. I graduated from Cathedral High School in 1960. I have lived most of my life in San Antonio, Texas but I carry in my soul my home town, New Ulm. The Journal has kept me in touch. May I thank you, the editorial staff, for covering bravely the important issues of peace and justice, and printing many different viewpoints.

I read with particular interest the last column by Randy Krzmarzick: “Minnesota in the center of the news universe”.  He focuses on what is unfortunately happening in communities all over the United States — a cruelty towards our neighbors and friends that defies all moral values. People, like Randy, are asking all of us to stand up and speak out. As we stand with our friends and neighbors, we quickly discover that we have much in common and we can get along.

At the end of the day, we can have a smile of satisfaction that we went out of our way to show caring and concern for others. We are all part of the global family. When the poisonous snake wants to bite, we are ready with the antidote. Together we unite to protect the vulnerable. Sometimes we cage the snake.
