Good turnout for town hall meetings
To the Editor:
I’d like to thank the residents of Brown and Redwood counties for attending the recent town meetings Senator Dahms and I held recently.
We saw good turnout at all our stops, and it was clear the Number 1 topic on people’s mind was fraud in the State of Minnesota. I share these frustrations and residents should know I am working to put an end to it, and to ensure that those who allowed fraud to flourish are finally held accountable.
We also heard concerns from business owners and employees about the state’s new Paid Family and Medical Leave program. The program began on January 1 and anyone who employs or is employed is having their tax dollars used to fund it, so there is plenty of interest about its rollout.
This is also a bonding year, and there are several communities that have local projects in the running for state capital investment dollars. We heard from some local leaders on this topic and expect a bonding bill to move forward this year.
Again, my thanks to all who attended our town meetings. If you were unable to make it, I am always available to answer your legislative questions. Feel free to reach out to me anytime at rep.paul.torkelson@house.mn.gov or by phone at 651.296.9303.
