The square wheels of justice

To the editor:

In a glaring example of how “transparently” the Trump Department of Justice goes about its nefarious missions of retribution at the behests of the President, special prosecutor Jack Smith has been subpoenaed by Republican Jim Jordan of the House Judiciary Committee to testify in a closed-door interview, which flew in the face of Smith’s request for an open public hearing. What? An open public hearing during which the public can hear the “defendant” giving his testimony for all to hear, rather than have Republicans pick and choose quotes that can be used out of context? Wouldn’t Smith’s full, public testimony be…er…what’s the word…ah, transparent?!

I know that the impending Dec. 17 interview sounds as if it’s going to be about so much old news. What’s the big deal? Don’t we have more pressing newsworthy things about which to fill our days? You know…there are the Epstein files…Pete Hegseth’s increasingly apparent ineptitude for his job of Secretary of “the-war-that-Pete-would-like-to-bungle.” Of course, I don’t want to forget the impending government shutdown being orchestrated by Republican leadership. January is coming up fast on the outside.

I’d like to suggest before the House is sent home for the holiday that they implement a plan to reduce their pay for the days and weeks and month(s) they don’t work. While they’re at it, they should also consider a reduction in their lavish benefits which they’ve bestowed upon themselves. Along that line, perhaps there should be limits placed upon their staffers’ operating under the mistaken notion that they have carte blanche when it comes to their spending. Maybe then we wouldn’t have politicians spending big bucks, you know, millions, to have jobs they hope to take them well into their (Chuck Grassley) golden years.

But I digress. It’s easy to do when the President is at it again flooding the zone with his prodigious criminalities. Why is it that he’s always suing or being sued? To hear him tell it, we’ve never seen anything like it, that is, how badly he’s persecuted. Well, where there’s smoke…
