Trump shows no respect for WH, history
To the editor:
How many times do I have to listen to someone compare resurfacing a tennis court for basketball to demolishing the entire East Wing of the White House? Read that again and think about how absurd it sounds, comparing a simple court resurfacing to tearing down a major part of one of the most historic buildings in America.
Every President who has wanted to make renovations to the White House has sought approval from Congress. They understood that the White House is the people’s house, not their personal property. Yet Donald Trump claimed that his new construction wouldn’t damage the building, and then went on to demolish a National Historic Structure without approval from anyone. That’s a major screw-up.
Trump shows no respect for history, and frankly, very little knowledge of it. Remember when he claimed he won by the biggest landslide since Eisenhower? Everyone knows that’s nonsense. FDR won 46 out of 48 states. Nixon won 49 of 50. Reagan won 49 of 50. Those are landslides. Just because he says something doesn’t make it factual.
Trump says whatever comes to mind, with no facts to back it up. Take the Georgia election, for example. He told the Attorney General there were thousands of dead people who voted. The AG said, “I want you to win, just give us your information. We’ve counted the votes three times and haven’t found anything to support your claims.” Instead of offering proof, Trump resorted to name-calling.
I would have a lot more faith in him if he hadn’t filed for bankruptcy so many times and had so many lawsuits against him, even before he entered politics. No one is right 100% of the time. No one is wrong 100% of the time. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
He that cannot be trusted with very little cannot be trusted with much. Our leaders are in my prayers every night. I pray that they receive wisdom.
