To the editor:

Don’t take democracy for granted The “No Kings” rally was inspiring. To see hundreds of people peacefully gathered on a lovely fall day. To see passing cars supporting the demonstration with a honk, wave or thumbs up. Our nations citizens are blessed with the freedom to gather, to speak, and to hold values and opinions. Those taking peaceful action are the true patriots of our time.

Although I worry about the state of our government as I watch the executive branch attempt to consolidate power and minimize the power of the Legislative and judicial branches, I feel hopeful. Citizens taking patriotic action in communities large and small is our best hope to preserve our democracy. The USA is a great country. Let’s all work together to preserve our constitution and the freedoms it grants us all.
