Republicans wasting their chances

To the editor:

On July 3, I watched in dismay as Republicans gathered ’round the President to give a final attestation to the criminally cruel bill for which 47 had begged. I’m sure that the chronically spineless House members, who have stayed clear of town halls in droves, are clandestinely conjuring up alternate truths to vindicate themselves when the reality of cuts to Medicaid hits the fan. I’m sure they’ll pull their best Pilate to wash their hands of it and absolve themselves from any responsibility for the bill’s passage. This is reminiscent of the cut to America’s soft diplomacy featured with the USAID program. It boggles the mind how these so-called Christians wrap themselves in the American flag and spout a religious dogma that runs contrary to Biblical teachings found even in 47’s gilded Bibles.

It would be easy to say, “I hate these people.” The President has uttered the same about Democrats. But I have to correct myself and say, “I hate what these people are doing.” In Luke 10 Jesus appointed 70 to go into towns to prepare his way. Upon entering a house, they were instructed to say, “Peace be to this house.” (Luke 10:5) However, if their message weren’t received, they were told to go into the street and say, “Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off against you; nevertheless know…that the kingdom of God has come near you.” (Luke 10:11)

Republicans have received the same message, education, and training as their counterparts; they’ve chosen to disregard their oaths to support and defend the Constitution in deference to an overwhelmed cult leader, who has no regard for that same Constitution. They don’t love the flag. It’s just a prop to dupe the right. They haven’t supported or defended the Constitution for years, and their disdain for its law and order is accelerating at an alarming rate.

They don’t love Americans. They love money and power. And they’re giving that all to billionaires. If America ever was a God-fearing country, God save us.
