Defund Human Rights Commission
To the editor:
We knew it would eventually happen. President Trump was elected with a mandate to deport illegal aliens (yes, they are illegal aliens, not “undocumented people”). Initially, the low hanging fruit of deporting illegal aliens who had committed heinous crimes, drug traffickers, gang members, and other assorted low lives were deported. Even ridding our country of these criminals was opposed by Democrats and their supporters. The bigger problem is the millions of the average, run of the mill, illegal immigrants.
So, of course the New Ulm Human Rights Commission steps up and hosts a “forum” on how illegal immigrants can avoid arrest (see 6-26-2025 front page article). They bring in COPAL to instruct the people on how to subvert the legal process. In any other way, this would be considered aiding and abetting criminals. The article says many immigrants and US citizens are struggling to understand their rights. I personally doubt legal U.S. citizens (no matter their ethnicity) are concerned about their rights on immigration issues. U.S. citizens need not, and do not, fear ICE or local police. I would agree illegal immigrants are struggling to understand their rights here in the U.S., because they have no rights here. They are illegal, and should be deported.
Instead of taking COPAL advice to avoid arrest, I would suggest illegals take advantage of the free plane ticket to where they came from, and $1,000.00 cash to deport themselves. The Trump administration is simply fulfilling the mandate given them by the voters.
It’s too bad the City of New Ulm doesn’t have its own DOGE. The City of New Ulm should defund the New Ulm Human Rights Commission for openly encouraging lawless conduct.
