Too little too late

To the editor:

A new book by CNN’s Jake Tapper reveals, too little too late, that former President Joe Biden was kept away not only from the public eye, but also from White House staff as his mental acuities were diminishing rapidly in the final days, weeks, months of his Presidency. Outside of his poor debate performance, I never saw anything that would have alarmed me, and thanks to his having a resourceful and competent staff we never seemed to be in any imminent danger as a nation.

Of course, the current President was always on his projection soap box in his attack of “Sleepy Joe,” but when has any adversary not been the butt of 47’s fishing expeditions into character assassination? History has a few closely silenced truths about some of our presidents. Edith Wilson handled Presidential duties after Woodrow Wilson suffered a stroke. Eleanor Roosevelt, likewise, was prominently involved in the Presidency when FDR was succumbing to polio. Did Nancy Reagan shoulder some of the presidency for Ronald in his final term? There seem to be opinions on both sides of that debate.

After how the Right has coddled and made excuses for 45/47 (Remember talk of invoking the 25th Amendment at the end of his first term…). I’d have wished the Democrats had taken the high road and pulled the plug on President Biden earlier with truthfulness. (I remember too well seeing Diane Feinstein’s final performances in the Senate. It was depressingly sad.) Perhaps we’d have an entirely different administration and not be in our current predicament… and Trump would now be in prison where he belongs. This is not a mea culpa. I stand by everything I’ve said. I just think that we need honesty from all of our elected leaders.

Obviously we need fairness and honesty in assessing the geezers we’re expecting to do the grueling job of President of the United States. I’m as right in my assessment of 47 as the Left was wrong in protecting President Biden.
