The little boy who cried (wolf)

To the Editor:

Everyone knows the story of the little boy who cried wolf. After so many lies and false alarms, when a wolf actually appeared, the people of the village, having grown numb to his litany of lies, failed to respond to a perceived false alarm, and the little boy regretted, too late, having fooled the people for his amusement.

A metaphor here to liken the former president to the little, lying boy just doesn’t work as the folks of MAGA are willing to accept every falsehood spewed by their leader — hook, line, and sinker.

Instead, this version of the story is just about the little boy who cried.

He’s crying that Democratic rhetoric is responsible for the latest assassination attempt. Saying that he’s a threat to democracy is to blame. Never mind that he’s proclaimed that, if he’s elected, he’ll be a “dictator” on day one, and if he’s not elected, it’s going to be a “bloodbath.” Calling him a threat to democracy sounds like an appropriate response to those kinds of forewarnings.

He’s crying that the Federal Reserve’s cutting interest rates is politically motivated to help the Harris campaign. That which cuts the deepest for the whiny baby is that Fed Chair Jerome Powell was an appointee of the former President.

Powell explained, “We do our work to serve all Americans. We’re not serving any politician, any political figure, any cause, any issue, nothing. It’s just maximum employment and price stability on behalf of all Americans.”

The Fed’s rationale: Inflation is under control. There’s more job growth. Unemployment is at 4%. The stock market is at historic highs. Gas prices are trending down. Interest rates on mortgages and car loans are falling.

Of course, MAGA is in complete denial, and their flawed Presidential candidate will lie (and cry) that all of these positives for Americans are just so much fake news.

He’s crying because economists have denounced his economic plans.

He’s crying because his planned tariffs have been likewise dissed.

He cries about everything.

Vote blue.

That’ll make him cry.
