More harm than some think?

To the editor:

“No one is owed an apology for mask mandates,” a column by Georgia Garvey in the Feb. 28, 2023, Journal, contains these statements: “No adult was harmed by having to wear a face mask, and the questionable impact on children’s development was balanced by a very understandable desire to prevent the deaths of millions of people.”

Something on how the figure of “millions” is brandished can be found in “What can we learn from the biggest lies people believed about COVID?” by Brandon Smith.

A Brown University study showed a drop of over 20 points in the IQ of infants after lockdowns and masking. “Not safe, not effective — 376 ways that face masks are known to harm the wearer” is the title of an article by Allan Stevo.

Ian Miller’s writings for the Brownstone Institute and his book, Unmasked: The Global Failure of Mask Mandates, might be consulted. Among other things, Paul E. Alexander has written “Masking children: tragic, unscientific, and damaging.” Naomi Wolf is perhaps never better than when describing how dehumanizing masking is.

Near the end, Garvey writes: “Doubt anyone who claims to know everything. … Believe, only, that humans are all fallible and that we all fall short of perfection.” Agreed. And that’s why we shouldn’t have been trusting Fauci, who claimed that attacks on him were attacks on science. It’s also why we shouldn’t trust those who try to shut down debate, thereby implicitly declaring themselves infallible. Those who censor and suppress others are essentially claiming that only their “knowledge” counts for anything. They are in effect saying: I have it all right, and I dare not be challenged or questioned; disagreement with me needs to be criminalized because it’s not possible for me to be wrong.

People sincerely interested in pursuing and establishing truth seek discussion, and shun censorship and suppression.
