CTE classes benefit area’s economy

To the editor:

Is Nov. 8 important enough for the future of our community, our students and our business?

New Ulm’s career and technical education class offerings are advanced welding, milling, manufacturing, advanced small gas engine/ATV repair, advanced cabinetry, automotive/auto body and carpentry.

Last year, more than 120 students took CTE Center classes. Many students who took CTE classes have entered the local workforce, filling jobs in small gas engine repair, welding fabrication, carpentry, and graphic arts. Several others continued on to technical schools to be welders, mechanics and machinists.

More than 60 students are taking CTE classes this fall, including students from Minnesota Valley Lutheran School.

The CTE Center has the support of local businesses in fabrication, manufacturing, construction, commercial banking, agriculture and automotive. All of them understand the importance of strong community and school partnerships.

Furthermore, there are many additional technical classes offered at the high school, with most intended to be introductory courses: basic woods, residential construction, welding, intro to mechanics, etc. A full complement of agricultural, family and consumer science (FACS) and business classes are also offered.

For many years, our local businesses have struggled to hire employees to support the basic services our community needs and depends on. The CTE Center and high school classes have our community moving in the right direction and will for many years into the future. This is our change to make a difference for every community resident.

The School Board election important for this thriving community. Please show your support, because our future is in your hands.
