To the editor:

The editorial reprinted from the Omaha (Nebraska) World Herald on July 6, 2022, in The Journal discussed the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution on the separation of church and state.

An article titled “Christian nationalists are excited about what comes next” by Katherine Stewart in the New York Times on July 5, 2022, spells out how they plan to change the United States into a Christian nation where “right-thinking” Christians have a biblically revived mandate to take control of all aspects of government and society.

In order to do this, they have to defeat the enemy within by demonizing all who oppose them as evil who must be excluded from public affairs and political power.

The Republican Party is now dominated by the religious right who plan to achieve power and access to public funds to complete their goal of changing America to a Christian theocracy.
