Gasoline Grinches

To the editor:

In the months before Christmas,

All through the town,

The New Ulm Gas Cartel

Kept our prices highest around.

They rose and they rose,

’til they hit $3.19,

But never came back down,

It clearly was seen.

The high prices remained,

New Ulmites were sad,

They had less money for Christmas

Than they previously had.

Folks in other towns,

Wondered what was the fuss?

They’re prices were dropping,

It was quite obvious.

Ten cents, twenty cents,

Two bits in Kato,

They don’t have a cartel there,

The same kind like we do.

“We can’t drop our prices,”

Said the old cartel Grinch.

“We can’t set them lower,

Not even one inch!”

But then something changed,

Nobody knows why.

Does the cartel no longer

Want prices so high?

So the day after Christmas,

They gave us a tickle,

The old cartel Grinch

Lowered prices a nickel!

What happened then?

Well, in New Ulm they say,

“We all saved five pennies

On a gallon that day.”

Happy New Year to all, and God Bless!
