Thank You to School District 88 Board Members

To the editor:

This is my first time ever writing a Letter to the Editor. In June, it was my first time ever writing to our Superintendent and each School Board Member. In July, I wrote my second letter to the Superintendent and each School Board Member of Dist. 88. Why? Because with what has been going on in our country the past 16 months, it’s time we the people make our voices HEARD. We have people working for US and they need to know that. Every elected person was put in that position with OUR vote, with the hopes they do what the majority of us want them to do.

I am not very good with writing and so the letters I wrote where not my actual words, but another concerned citizen wrote it and MANY of us in the community agreed with it and we were allowed to send the same letter voicing our concerns and signing our own name to it.

After the recent news from the school district with back to school plans for next month, I think they heard us. I really don’t know, though, because I wrote to the Superintendent and all 7 board members without getting a response. I was expecting at least a canned “Thank you for your email” response. But I got nothing. Other people that I know that wrote to them as well did not get a response back. So did they receive our letters and concerns? Did they even read them? I don’t know. But I am here to thank them and I am going this route to make sure someone sees it.

School Board Members and Superintendent of Dist 88: Thank you for not REQUIRING face masks for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. We appreciate you recognizing that this, along with the CHOICE to get vaccinated, should be a family decision, and not one FORCED upon by the school. There are consequences that go along with the decisions you make. They say follow the money…. when we are FORCED to do things we don’t agree with, we look for other options. There are other options out there for us besides the public schools that are funded by the state. The money follows the student. A great community has a great school district and no one wants to see New Ulm not be the great district that it is by lost enrollment.

There is power in numbers and we hope that with a concerted, unified effort we can maintain and uphold the values and freedoms we have all been able to enjoy thus far. Freedom is not free!
