Reminder of insurrection penalties

To the editor:

Republicans, like Jim Hagedorn, Tom Emmer, and Pete Stauber, who are attempting to overthrow a free and fair election, should keep in mind that U.S. Code 2383, which is titled Rebellion and Insurrection, states:

“Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.”

They may be operating within the judicial system now, but if gangs like the Proud Boys continue to promote violence, the supporters could be guilty of assisting rebellion, and among other things be incapable of continuing in office.

Let’s get on with healing the country and defeating COVID…not each other.
