An answer to Halloween vs. COVID-19

To the editor:

I am in a nursing home now, but back on year we had a snow storm on Halloween and we were taking our grandkids out (3 of them). It was so bad that you could not see. I said let’s go home before we hit a kid and I will buy each one a bag of candy. They can pick what they wanted and could trade if they wanted to. They agreed. They liked that they could do that and we were safe at home in town.

Another year we were taking care of the grandkids and one came up to me and said, we can’t even go to Grandma’s house for Halloween. I had to think. I told them to go outside and go to the end of the walk and come back to the door. I gave them candy, Then I said go across the road to the neighbors. Later, their Dad took them to town. We then lived on a farm site.

Maybe this can help some parents and/or grandparents this year. My grandkids are all grown up now, in their 30s.
