Schultz sees successes, challenges ahead

To the editor:

I am up for Ward 3 City Councilor in this upcoming election. I have been honored to represent this ward and all of New Ulm as your city councilor for the past three terms. New Ulm has so many things to be grateful for such as new roads on 5th North and Center, beautiful new amphitheater at German Park, bridgework into town complete, newly designed hill on Center Street along with a major update to Johnson Park. We have Highway 14 connection finally happening and a citizen-approved waterpark, pool, gymnastics center and indoor playground being developed to start enjoying in the next year or so.

We have some challenges ahead. COVID-19 totally changed up the revenue expected from local sales and potential decrease in State revenue. Budgets will be challenging in the next few years and we will need to roll up our sleeves and make sure spending decisions are made carefully. Our community needs to continue to advocate for new retail and industrial businesses to come to town to increase our tax base and work with our local business to hang in there during this difficult time. Our city has a lot going for it and with strong city partners, New Ulm will continue to grow and prosper. I am excited for our future and look forward to continuing to represent the city and Ward 3.
