The warming Arctic

To the editor:

In September 2019 at the Nobel Conference at Gustavus in St. Peter I heard Sheila Watt-Cloutier, the author of “The Right to be Cold,” speak about the changes occurring in the Arctic and to the people who have lived there for thousands of years. The Arctic is one of the fastest warming areas on earth and this is impacting everything living there. The native peoples of the Arctic did not cause the rapid rise of CO2 and methane into the atmosphere which is causing the trapping of radiant energy from the sun. They are pleading with us in the industrialized world to stop burning fossil fuels. Ms. Watt-Cloutier spoke eloquently about what we are doing to her people in the Arctic region. She was also warning us about what will happen elsewhere if we continue on our current path.

Creating a fantasy narrative as Ms. Rysdahl did in her recent letter to the editor is a disservice to all living things on earth.
