More memories of George’s Ballroom
To the editor:
I also regret George’s Ballroom must be demolished. But I understand that it must be done. My friends and I danced there every Saturday night while in Comfrey High School. In the 1950s. There were about 300 musicians living in New Ulm as well as at least 30 working bands. Once a year the bands would get together for a Musicians Ball only for the musicians and their guests. My husband Keith (deceased) played trumpet with most of the bands, Harold Loffemacher’s Six Fat Dutchmen, Babe Wagner, Fezz Fritsche and many others.
