Serenity Service this Sunday
To the editor:
The second annual “Serenity Service: A Celebration of Hope and Recovery” will take place at United Church of Christ, 301 South Minnesota St., on Sunday, Sept. 22. We encourage everyone to attend this uplifting and inspirational service! This event last year was a powerful testimonial to the challenges of persons suffering from addiction, and the hope and new opportunities which are possible in recovery, and included sharing by a couple in recovery, and spiritual reflections by several local clergy.
Persons with addiction are more likely to seek help and to be successful in recovery, if their community, including family, friends, neighbors, employer and coworkers are understanding and supportive. There are few families who are not affected in some way by someone with an addiction problem. We continue to witness the devastation that can occur with untreated addiction, including broken homes, disrupted careers, and loss of lives.
The Serenity Service is an opportunity to become more informed about addiction problems, to celebrate those who are in recovery, and to become more aware of community resources for individuals with substance abuse problems and their family members. This event is co-sponsored by CARE (Community Advocates for Recovery) and New Ulm Medical Center. Please consider attending to show your support!
