Put splash pad at Harman Park

To the editor:

This is in reference to the article from April 17, 2019 “New Ulm City Council Tables Splash Pad Location Decision.” Harman Park was suggested as the park to receive the splash pad with its centralized location, current restroom facilities, and lower utility costs; Councilor Dave Christian questioned the safety since one person was hit during elections crossing the street to vote. Harman Park has plenty of parking — without having to build a new parking lot.

As a mother of 3 young boys, I’ve spent countless hours sitting through Bitty Ball, T-ball, and baseball games and practices at Harman Park most Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout June and July. The park is packed with families and players and I can’t recall of hearing of a single accident. There are over 20 spaces next to the Garden Street so children don’t have to cross Garden Street, at least eight spots in the parking lot, and even more parking along 2nd Street North. There is an abundance of parking spots. The Splash Pad should be considered at Harman Park.
