Thanks for Boys State opportunity

To the editor:

I would like to thank the New Ulm American Legion Seifert-Bianchi Post 132 for sponsoring and supporting my trips to Boys State and Boys Nation. Boys Nation took place from July 20 to July 28. I think the weeks of Boys State and of Boys Nation will shape my life.

At Boys State in early June, I learned through hands-on experiences the finer points of local and state-level government. At Boys Nation, I served as one of two senators representing Minnesota. I learned how the federal government operates through an intense week of active participation in the political process. More importantly, however, I made friends that will last forever. I am confident that the people I met and became friends with have made me a better person. I was exposed to many different political ideologies and personal circumstances and situations. These connections and friendships have hopefully made me more open-minded and compassionate.

Everyone at American Legion Post 132 has been instrumental in this process, but I want to thank Bert Marth specifically for being a mentor and supporter throughout the entire processes of Boys State and Boys Nation. My family has also fostered and encouraged me to work hard, learn, and connect with people. Thank you for your love and support. Thank you also to my friends, teachers, and community for sending me congratulatory messages and for celebrating with me. New Ulm is truly a wonderful place to live. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to attend Boys State and Boys Nation. I will never forget the lessons I learned and the friends I made.
