Community deserves the theater experience

To the editor:

I have bought a season ticket for the State Street Theater Company for the last three years. Those talented actors and the gifted director have never let me down. I have lived in New York City, and I saw many Broadway shows. The State Street Theater produced such classics as “South Pacific,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” “I love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” that brought Broadway quality entertainment to New Ulm.

Turner Hall, before the fire that burned the auditorium, had New York and Chicago plays. New Ulm has a tradition. Educated people frequented those plays and musical groups. Now we have the State Street Theater in its place.

We have a marvelous auditorium …. one that seats 800, one that has good acoustics, one that is historical, one that fits the needs of the theater company. Why shouldn’t we restore it?

The community deserves this positive experience. Live performers delighting your senses. The arts are good for the soul.
