Wild primary season

This summer promises to be a wild primary season in Minnesota politics.

We have three DFL candidates — Erin Muphy, Tim Walz and Lori Swanson, and two Republicans — Jeff Johnson and Tim Pawlenty — for governor. There’s a scramble in the Attorney General’s race, with five DFLers, including latecomer Keith Ellison, and three Republicans facing off. And there’s no shortage of Congressional candidates, especially in the 5th Congressional District, after Ellison suddenly jumped into the state Attorney General’s race.

Things are a little wild action locally as well. We have four candidates for Brown County Sheriff, including a last day switch when Sheriff Rich Hoffman, who had filed earlier, decided he would pull out in favor of his Chief Deputy Jason Seidl. Seidl is facing NUPD Investigator Jeff Hohensee and Brown County Deputies Matt Ibberson and Jason Fairbairn.

We have a three way race in the Brown County Fifth Commissioners District, with Lynn Anderson, Derek Tonn and Jeff Veerkamp as candidates.

We look forward to getting to know all of these candidates prior to the August election.
