Elect Johnson for governor

Gov. Mark Dayton, with the help of a DFL-controlled Legislature, claims many accomplishments for the people of Minnesota – balancing the state budget, investing in education and infrastructure, and pushing the Minnesota economy.

This was accomplished, however, with one of the biggest tax increases in state history. It was levied, he points out, on the richest two percent of Minnesotans. But there were also sales taxes levied on farmers and state businesses, job-killing taxes. When the harmful impact of these taxes was made obvious, Gov. Dayton could have called a special session to repeal them, but he didn’t. Farmers who had to pay the sales tax on farm equipment repairs were given no opportunity to get a refund.

Gov. Dayton was also surprised when MNsure, the state’s health insurance exchange, was not ready to go when it was scheduled to roll out last year.

Minnesota needs a governor who has a better grip on what’s happening in state government, and who has a better plan for state budgeting than grabbing more from the taxpayer.

Republican candidate Jeff Johnson promises to be a governor with better awareness and control over government operations. He promises to approach budgeting by controlling spending, cutting waste where possible before hitting up the taxpayers for more. We think his approach will do more to improve the economic recovery that Minnesota has been enjoying.

Minnesota has a chance to help restore balance in state government next week by electing Jeff Johnson as Minnesota’s next governor.
