Brown County Browser: Excuse the mess!

From the Brown County License Bureau

Yes, the Brown County License Bureau has begun an expansion project. With the implementation of MNLARS in July of 2017 and now REAL ID in October 2018, we are adding two work stations and a larger lobby area for our customers. You, as taxpayers, will see many benefits from this project. We will now have five work stations and the camera area. This will allow for more privacy as we review your documents, a fast lane just for tab renewals, and an improved streamlined process. We know you will enjoy your visit to our office once our project is completed.

REAL ID has launched! On Oct. 1 the State of Minnesota implemented the new FAST DL System. It was a smooth rollout and we are excited about this program. You are now able to choose from three different types of licenses. The Standard is the same type you may have now. This is used as your driving privilege and for identification. The REAL ID will be required for flying domestically by Oct. 1, 2020. Lastly, we also offer the Enhanced Driver’s License that is used for border crossing by land. If you have a passport you are able to use this for all traveling along with internationally. Please contact our office prior to applying for your license to receive a handout on the required documents to apply. Allow 20 minutes for any of these types of applications.

We would also like to share a few tips on making the most of your time at our office. It is best to avoid Thursdays and the last days of the month. Transactions are high and wait times are longer. Always have your insurance filled out ahead of time that we can serve you efficiently and help you get on with the other tasks you have for that day. We want to make the best use of your time and see that you are served quickly.

As always, please renew your tabs in person. When they are renewed by mail or internet our local offices lose valuable tax revenue for your city or county. We are only here to serve you if the residents utilize the services provided for them. Isn’t it better to see us face-to-face and walk out with your transaction complete instead of waiting weeks to receive?

We encourage you to visit our office at 1900 N Franklin St., New Ulm. We are open Monday 7:30-5:30 and Tuesday – Friday 7:30-5. We hope to see you soon!
