Thumbs Up/Down

Title time again

The COVID-19 pandemic wiped out last season’s state high school tournaments, but the game is on again this year.

We congratulate all the area high school athletes who are competing this weekend and next week, as the tournament schedules are compressed. New Ulm and area wrestlers are competing this weekend, and local basketball teams will be heading for state next week, including the girls team from St. Mary’s of Sleepy Eye. The St. Mary’s boys team also won the Section 2A title and will be joining the girls in the state tournament.

Good luck to all.

Vaccinations

Gov. Tim Walz has expanded the eligibility for COVID-19 vaccinations to Minnesotans 16 and older, in anticipation that the federal government will increase the doses the state receives each week. That means demand may outpace supply for a while, but the federal government is promising more doses by early April.

We know there is growing frustration with the struggle to get an appointment for a vaccination, but it is worth the effort. Getting vaccinated for COVID will protect those who are vaccinated, and reduce the risk for those still waiting.
