The people have spoken – let’s hear what they have to say

Election Day 2020 has come and gone, and the monumental task of counting all the ballots is ongoing, a task complicated by COVID-19 and the resulting increase in mail-in and absentee ballots.

On Wednesday, as election officials in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Nevada and Arizona continued the counting, President Donald Trump’s campaign was busy filing lawsuits to stop the counting in Michigan and filing for a recount in Wisconsin. Trump had declared himself the winner early Wednesday morning, while votes across the country were being counted, a claim refuted even by Republicans.

One thing that should be held sacred in American politics is the sanctity of the vote. If they are legally cast, votes should be counted, each and every one. Candidates should refrain from interfering while the counting is going on.

The people, through their votes, have spoken, and we should all be patient and wait to hear what they have to say, even if we may not like what we hear.
