Thumbs Up/Down

Oktoberfest fun

THUMBS UP: Oktoberfest is proof that if you aren’t having a good time in New Ulm, you are deliberately trying not to. These two weekends are so full of music, activities, parades, food and ethnic beverages that it’s hard to avoid having fun.

Oktoberfest is spread out all over New Ulm, and beyond, from the Morgan Creek Vineyards to the August Schell Brewery. You can have fun indoors at the Best Western Plus, Turner Hall and other venues, or outside on Center Street next to the Chamber of Commerce. You can grab a shuttle bus to take you around to all the various fun spots.

Have a good time this weekend, and please celebrate responsibly.

Manufacturing tour

THUMBS UP: The annual Tour of Manufacturing held this week around southern Minnesota is a great reminder of all the career opportunities for skilled laborers in the area. They prove you don’t need a four-year degree to have a successful, satisfying career right here in New Ulm.

Thanks to Parker Hannifin, Specsys, Booth Welding & Fabricating, and New Ulm Precision Tool for opening their businesses to tours this past Thursday.

Win, Twins

THUMBS UP: It has been a long time since Minnesota Twins fans have felt this good about the team in October. The playoff season begins for the Twins as they face the New York Yankees in the Division Series. In the past, the Yankees have been a brick wall to get past, but this year there’s no reason to think the Twins won’t have a chance. They matched up very well with the Yankees in most categories during the season, and are exhibiting all the confidence they need to advance in the playoffs.

Go get ’em, Twins!
