Thumbs Up/Down

A man on the moon

THUMBS UP: Fifty years ago today Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon. It was the culmination of eight hectic years of technological research and development by 400,000 people in NASA to respond to President John F. Kennedy’s challenge. It was a stunning achievement, and an example of what Americans – indeed, mankind — can accomplish if we work together.

Today, as we look back at that fantastic achievement, let us be reminded of that unity, that singleness of purpose that seems to be so lacking today. If we can put a man on the moon, can’t we work together to accomplish any good thing we set our mind to?

Bavarian Blast

THUMBS UP: New Ulm’s midsummer celebration of German and American music, food and gemuetlichkeit is taking place this weekend. We wish all Bavarian Blasters a great time as they celebrate at the festgrounds.

Congratulations to the organizers and the many, many volunteers who make this annual festival, now in its 14th year, possible.

ISD 88 Hall of Fame

THUMBS UP: The ISD 88 Foundation has named the honorees who will be inducted into the ISD 88 Hall of Fame in October. Congratulations to the four: Kathy Bonnifield, class of 1990, Bradley Isberner, class of 1972, the late Steve Reinhart, class of 1965, and Timothy Schuetzle, class of 1972. Through their many and varied accomplishments, they serve as examples for today’s students.
