Thumbs Up/Down
Celebrating baseball in New Ulm
THUMBS UP: New Ulm got a nice boost this week when a Fox 9 TV crew came for its series on Town Team Baseball in Minnesota. The series focuses not just on the ballparks and the teams, but on the people and the communities.
New Ulm, of course, has had a long love affair with baseball. In that regard it’s not much different from all the other towns with baseball. Baseball truly is America’s pastime, uniting people north and south, east and west, in the love of a game we all know and understand.
The series allowed New Ulm to be New Ulm, and New Ulm made the most of the opportunity.
Still time to show support for Hwy. 14
THUMBS UP: The Minnesota Department of Transportation is applying for grant funds from the federal government for Highway 14 through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s BUILD program.
There is still a little time (July 8 is the deadline) for people to write in support of the application. Letters can be sent to The Honorable Elaine L. Chao, Secretary of Transportation, United States Department of Transportation, 1200 New Jersey Avenue SE, Washington, DC 20590. They can also be emailed through the Minnesota Department of Transportation, Doris Degenstein, MnDOT District 7 in Mankato (doris.degenstein@state.mn.us).
Be sure to give your reasons for supporting the project — the safety concerns on this dangerous stretch of highway, the economic impact the expansion would have, and the growth along Highway 14 that makes this expansion necessary.
