Thumbs Up/Down

Baseball, cars and quilts this weekend

THUMBS UP: It’s a busy weekend in New Ulm. Seems like there’s something going on for everyone.

If you like baseball (and who doesn’t these days with the Minnesota Twins sitting atop the AL Central with a 52-28 record?) you could head down to Mueller Park to catch some games in the Junior Upper Midwest Classic tournament. Parking’s a breeze and the concessions are a lot cheaper than at Target Field.

If you like classic cars (and who doesn’t? — this is America, after all!) head over to Autofest at the Brown County Fairgrounds on Sunday to see some great examples of American automaking. Go to the fairgrounds tonight for a free drive-in movie, too — featuring car racing!

If you like quilts (and who doesn’t love a nice, comfy quilt?) you will find them all over town today during the bi-annual Quiltistry exhibit at historic sites throughout town.

Have a safe holiday

THUMBS UP: The Fourth of July is coming up on Thursday, which will make for an extra long holiday weekend for some.

Here’s hoping you have a happy one, and a safe one. If you’re traveling, take it easy on the roads. Traffic statistics always show the 4th of July to be one of the deadliest of the year, so slow down, give yourself plenty of time to get where you’re going, and of course, don’t drive if you’ve been drinking.
