NEW ULM–Michael Boyum, age 64, of New Ulm passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Pastor Amy Karlson will officiate. Inurnment will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery Columbarium. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes – North Chapel in New Ulm. Michael is survived by his wife, Janelle Boyum; children, Adam (Brittany) Boyum, Ashley (Lance) Gladis; five grandchildren, Logan, Ava, and Ella Boyum, Hayden and Cameron Gladis; sister, Jean (Lou) Geistfeld; brother, Jason Boyum; sisters-in-law, Dianne (Wes) Nelson, Iona “Onie” (Jeff) Reinarts; godmother, Barb Nicolaus; and many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and LaVonne Boyum; parents-in-law, Richard and Betty Drexler; nephew, Mike Reinarts; and close friend, Mike Sellner.
Michael Roger Boyum was born July 3, 1961 to Roger and LaVonne (Boeder) Boyum in Sleepy Eye. He attended New Ulm Senior High School and worked at North Central Containers in New Ulm. Mike enjoyed cooking, grilling, and smoking meats. He was also an avid bowler, gardener, and fisherman. Many fond memories were made decorating his yard for holidays, especially Christmas and Halloween, going on annual summer vacations, and enjoying the outdoors fishing and bird watching while tending to his garden. Mike will be dearly missed by those that knew him. Blessed be his memory.
